Struggle with Relaxing or Going to Sleep? Try A.S.M.R.

A few months ago in group, we were talking about different things we find relaxing. We probably were in Coping group, working on distress tolerance. One group member suggested using A.S.M.R. I had never heard of such a thing.

ASMR, a phenomenon called autonomous sensory meridian response, or A.S.M.R., designed to evoke a tingling sensation that travels over the scalp or other parts of the body in response to auditory, olfactory or visual forms of stimulation.

Come to find out, youtube is filled with millions of videos of people doing things to make sounds people find appealing. Here are links to a recent New York Times article and video the Times made about A.S.M.R.

It seems to me this is another form of finding ways to help our brains slow down, or self-soothe. I've watched a few of these videos and never get the sensation some people describe. In fact, like some of the commenters in the article, I find them mostly irritating.

But, some folks swear by these videos. Give it a try, and if you find it pleasant, please let me know.
