Get to Know NAMI--National Alliance on Mental Illness

Posted on 02/26/2014 07:56:00 AM

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) was founded in 1979 with the goal of being an advocacy organization for those diagnosed with mental illness, and for their loved ones. NAMI works to provide support and education, increase awareness, advocate for those with mental illness, and assist in research.

At the national website there is a wealth of information about various mental health diagnoses, options for treatment, and the programs NAMI has. Idaho has its own branch and that website is found here

Locally, there is a Boise chapter, and that website is here

One example of what NAMI provides is support.  At the Boise website you will find listings of support groups for mental illness. There is a peer-run support group, and there is also a group for family members.

Check out all of NAMI's websites for great resources.
