Options for managing problem drinking

Posted on 04/02/2015 11:52:00 AM

Persons coping with mental health issues such as depression, bipolar, and anxiety sometimes use alcohol as a way of coping with symptoms. This obviously can cause problems but it may not always lead to addiction.

Even still, a person might recognize that the use of alcohol is becoming problematic, but not see herself as "an alcoholic", and may not meet diagnostic criteria for alcohol dependence. This person might not want to attend AA for a variety of reasons.

This article talks about options for learning how to do controlled drinking in a healthy way

Controlled drinking, drinking in moderation, drinking mindfully and healthfully are goals for many people who simply don't want to give up alcohol altogether.
