On our website, underneath the tab for this blog is another tab, Resources. On that page we link to both AA and SMART Recovery. I found out about a couple more addiction supports in the community and want to share them. We found these through meetup.com.
If you haven't been to meetup.com, you're missing out. This is a website that helps local people to connect with one another through common interests. Of course, there are the Boise Beer lovers-type groups, but there are also groups for people interested in astronomy, chess, investing, natural hot springs, hiking, biking, science fiction, love of pugs, LGBT, and more. (One of my favorites is the group named the BLBLLs--Boise Laid Back Lively Ladies.)
Two groups that focus on addiction are the Fire Lotus group--a Buddhist principles applied to addictions of all kinds; and Y12SR (Yoga of 12 Step Recovery) is a sober activity and resource that combines the wisdom of yoga philosophy in conjunction with the practical tools of 12-step programs. It's guided by it’s theme ‘The Issues Live In the Tissues”, and is modeled from meetings of 12-step programs.
Please consider looking at meetup.com to find connections for yourself in the community that support your recovery; they don't have to be addictions or recovery-themed. Part of recovery is about building a life worth living aside from mental health and addictions issues. Replacing the time and effort of dealing with depression, anxiety and using with healthier alternatives is an important piece of living well.
