NeuroStar TMS uses transcranial magnetic stimulation to target areas of the brain that are underactive in people with depression. It is not ECT (electroconvulsive therapy), requires no sedation or anesthesia, and has no recovery time. The most common side effect is mild to moderate discomfort at the treatment site during the first week. NeuroStar is FDA-cleared for treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adults who have not responded satisfactorily to antidepressant medication, and as an adjunct treatment for OCD.
